The current situation in Ukraine is considered very dynamic. Between February 24, 2022 and March 15, 2022, around 160.000 refugees from Ukraine came to Germany. The nationwide support that refugees are now receiving is correspondingly important. This also means that everyone can be offered the opportunity to learn the German language. The Central German Institute (MIQR) performs in various German cities German and integration courses which are funded by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF).

Integration courses for Ukrainians

Since the end of February, several hundred people from Ukraine have been arriving in Germany every day. For this reason, the focus is primarily on the pending integration of the refugees. First of all, it is important that the people from Ukraine receive accommodation and first aid. In the future, however, the federal level plans to offer every refugee who wants to complete one an integration course. With its integration and German courses, the Central German Institute also helps Ukrainians to quickly find their way around in Germany, both linguistically and socially.

Learn German for Ukrainians

Learning German for children

Arriving in another country is not only associated with many challenges for adults. Even the little ones first have to learn to find their way in the new environment. Finding new friends, settling into everyday kindergarten life or mastering school is not easy at first - especially not in a foreign language.

But children are curious, they learn through play and enjoy discovering linguistic diversity. Especially when they are young, it is usually easy for them to learn a new language. Here they benefit from the most natural way possible to experience language - similar to acquiring their mother tongue - by dancing, singing, handicrafts, reading stories. All of this promotes the development of a good feeling for language and the desire to learn languages. The focus is therefore on holistic support for the children, since discovering a new language can also develop their emotional, creative, cognitive and social skills.

In Germany, there is a large number of language learning and support options for children with a migration background. educational programs like that language day-care centers or special language support programs at elementary schools, free materials (such as the Fairy Tale Folder), which are made available for download by educational institutions or interactive language learning games (e.g The Language Magician) should make it easier for the little ones to get started in their new home.
