BAMF integration course (German) for refugees in Berlin – application, costs, requirements, modules, test & Co.

In addition to learning the German language, our integration course also offers help for refugees in coping with everyday life in Germany.

First you complete a language course (600 teaching units) and then an orientation course (100 teaching units). The language course prepares you for speaking and writing in everyday life.

You will expand your vocabulary on topics such as work, health, living and leisure. In the subsequent orientation course you will be informed about life in Germany. Here you will deal, among other things, with the culture, history and legal system of the country.

Target group and requirements

The target group for the BAMF integration course includes various groups of people. In general, the legal entitlement to course participation applies to foreigners who have received their residence permit after January 01, 2005 and are staying permanently in Germany (Section 44 (1) of the Residence Act). Due to the current situation in Ukraine, special regulations apply to Ukrainian refugees regarding the requirements for an integration course via the BAMF. The integration course (BAMF)

The integration course consists of two sections. A placement test is carried out in advance so that you can then start with the appropriate language course. It begins with the basic course (up to language level A2) and is immediately followed by the advanced course (up to language level B1). After successfully completing the required number of teaching units (600 in total), the “German test for immigrants” can be taken. The orientation course that follows (a total of 100 teaching units) concludes with the “Living in Germany” test.

Integration courses are intended to make life in Germany easier and more accessible for foreigners. Learning the German language is the first step here, as it allows you to fill out important applications and facilitates access to the job market. But basic knowledge about Germany, such as the culture or legal system, can also be very helpful in order to be able to integrate more quickly in Germany.

Intensive training in reading, writing and speaking will bring you closer to the goal of being able to communicate with a third person without help. Completion and exams of the integration course (BAMF)

The aim of the integration course is for the participants to be able to manage their everyday life independently at the end. Accordingly, the language test "German test for immigrants" and the test "Living in Germany" (LiD) take place at the end. "German test for immigrants" (DTZ)

The German test for immigrants aims to achieve language level B1, which is achieved after successfully completing the language course. The written part with a total duration of 100 minutes includes reading and listening tests as well as writing a short letter. The oral test that follows takes a total of 15 minutes. In the test, you will be asked about the knowledge you have gained in the orientation course. Among other things, it is about questions about the legal system, life in Germany and history. The questionnaire consists of 33 questions, each with four possible answers. This must be answered within 60 minutes with at least 15 correct questions. Costs and funding from the BAMF

Participation in the integration course is for you free, if you belong to the eligible target group:

  • Aussiedler and their relatives
  • Asylum seekers with good prospects of staying
