24-month supervised company retraining (bbU)

24-month retraining to become an industrial clerk (IK)

Participation in working life (LTA)

The benefits for professional rehabilitation also bear the social law concept of Benefits for participation in working life (LTA). Measures are described here that counteract occupational disability and therefore promote the ability to work of people with existing illnesses or other restrictions. On this path, you will be supported in getting back into working life, for example by completing a preparatory, further training or retraining measure. These services are funded by various cost bearers. You can find more information on this in our section >Funding opportunities for vocational rehabilitation<.

Prerequisites / target group for vocational rehabilitation

Occupational rehabilitation measures help people who are unable to return to their old job due to an accident or illness. They get the status of To protect yourself against long-term incapacity for work, consider "Berufsunfähigkeit".. This is the case if the previously performed occupation can no longer be exercised after a period of six months. You are also considered to be unable to work as soon as you can no longer complete 50 percent of your professional tasks. In addition, the vocational rehabilitation measures are aimed at people who are still further away from retirement age and whose gainful employment is therefore to be restored.

Occupational rehabilitation services are borne by the pension insurance institution with the following personal requirements:

• Your earning capacity is reduced or endangered due to illness or mental, emotional or physical limitations
• Your ability to work can be restored or improved or
• Your earning capacity can be preserved

Process of professional rehabilitation

An accident or long-term illness often results in disability. But when are you considered disabled? We have this question in the previous chapter >Requirements< clarified. Although such a situation may seem hopeless, there is a suitable vocational rehabilitation measure for every case.

For this, an application for benefits for participation in working life (LTA) must be submitted. In the most common cases, this is processed by the German pension insurance (DRV-LTA application - G0100/G0130), the employment agency or the professional association / accident insurance, among others. This application must be made before you start any vocational rehabilitation measures. Of course you can inquire in advance, but professional rehabilitation can only be implemented once the application has been approved. Once your funding has been approved, you can start immediately with a suitable measure. After you have successfully completed this, nothing stands in the way of your professional restart.

Funding opportunities for vocational rehabilitation

In this section we have compiled a list of the places you can contact with your application for benefits for participation in working life (LTA) and benefit from funding. Before you approach a payer, the responsibilities should be clarified.

Your application and your support at the German pension insurance

The German pension insurance (DRV-LTA application – G0100/G0130) is a possible payer for vocational rehabilitation. When you submit your application, you will be asked mainly about “how” and “why”. Accordingly, you should carefully consider your reasons for wanting rehabilitation. One of the prerequisites for the subsidies from the DRV is that you have been employed for more than 15 years and are still a long way from the retirement age, so that such a measure is still worthwhile for you.

Your application and your support at the trade association

The trade association pays for the costs of a vocational rehabilitation measure if you have suffered from an occupational disease or have had an accident at work. In this case, you will receive financial support from the responsible trade association. Not only vocational rehabilitation courses are carried out, but also medical measures. In this way, the trade association ensures that you can soon return to work.

Other payers for occupational rehabilitation

If you are unemployed, you can also use your LTA application to Employment Agency walk. To do this, contact the employment agency in your place of residence.

The Vocational Advancement Service (BfD) the Bundeswehr supports servicewomen and men who are leaving service to integrate into the civilian labor market. In order to make this step easier, measures for professional rehabilitation are funded by the BfD.

The  State Administration Office (LVWA) Thuringia takes care of conscripts who have suffered an injury during a Bundeswehr deployment and are permanently impaired as a result. Funding for vocational rehabilitation measures is intended to help people enter civilian working life.

The Municipal social association Saxony (KSV) supports people with disabilities or people at risk of becoming disabled. Financial support is intended to enable participation in working life.
