BAMF integration course (German) for refugees in Leipzig - application, costs, requirements, modules, test & Co.

Learning the German language is important for good integration, but help to cope with everyday life also plays a major role. The integration course supports foreigners and refugees on arrival in Germany. It includes both a language course with a total of 600 teaching units and an orientation course with 100 teaching units. In this way, you will not only acquire the vocabulary for writing and reading, but also basic knowledge on topics such as the legal system, recent history or the culture of Germany.

Target group and requirements

The integration course is aimed at different groups of people with different requirements. Foreigners who received a residence permit after January 01, 2005 and live in Germany for a longer period of time have a legal right to attend an integration course (Section 44, Paragraph 1, Residence Act). The integration course (BAMF) at the MIQR Leipzig

In the integration course you go through two sections. After a placement test, the language course takes place, which is further subdivided into the basic course (up to language level A2) and the advanced course (up to language level B1). As soon as you have completed the 600 teaching units, the “German test for immigrants” takes place. On the other hand, you will take part in the orientation course (a total of 100 teaching units). The content of the integration course is designed to prepare foreigners and refugees for life in Germany and to provide them with assistance in everyday life. For this purpose, the German language is learned, which makes it easier for them to find work, for example. The contents of the orientation course are intended to promote successful integration among the participants. For this reason, aspects of life in Germany are discussed, since norms or values, for example, differ from country to country. Completion and exams of the integration course (BAMF)

After completing the integration course, you should be able to manage everyday life in Germany independently. For this reason, the degree is divided into the completion of the language course with the "German test for immigrants" and the test "Living in Germany" (LiD) after the orientation course. If you have achieved a successful result in all of them, you obtain the "Integration course certificate“. "German test for immigrants" (DTZ)

The aim of the "German test for immigrants" (DTZ) is to achieve language level B1. On the one hand, there is a written part totaling 100 minutes. This includes a reading and listening test as well as the task of writing a short letter. The oral part of the exam puts your ability to communicate with a second person and the examiners. The time frame is around 15 minutes.

Test "Living in Germany" (Lid)

The "Living in Germany (LiD)" test examines the content of the orientation course that you have previously completed. Among other things, your level of knowledge on the topics of recent history, the legal system or life in Germany will be surveyed. The questionnaire used for this purpose contains 33 questions, each with four possible answers. At least 15 of these questions must be answered correctly within 60 minutes in order to pass the exam. Costs and funding from the BAMF

Participation in the integration course is free of charge for you if you are part of the group of people eligible for funding, including:

  • Aussiedler and their relatives
  • Asylum seekers with good prospects of staying
