This course is funded by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) and is free of charge*.

Target groups of the professional language course B1/B2

Our courses are designed to help migrants improve their German language skills so that they can meet the demands of the job market, their education or their current job.

The professional language course B1 to B2 is suitable for these target groups:

This course is aimed at people with a migration background who either:

  • have already taken and passed the German test for immigrants with language level B1 or
  • have a recognized language certificate at B1 level.**

**If your language certificate is more than six months old, you must take a placement test, which will only be marked by an approved teacher, in order to be able to participate in the course.

Note: If you don't have a B1 level yet, we can still help you! We would be happy to advise you on the possibilities that the MIQR offers you.

Conditions of participation for the professional language course B1/B2

A certificate of eligibility, which is usually issued by the employment agencies and job centres, is required to take part in a course. If you are interested, contact these bodies to obtain the necessary certification.

Those who are in an employment or training relationship or in the recognition process but do not receive benefits under SGB II or SGB III should contact the BAMF to apply for the certificate.

 

Generally eligible are people who:

  • have completed an integration course or can prove German language skills at B1 level,
  • are registered as looking for work and/or receive benefits under SGB II (ALG II) or SGB III (ALG I),
  • look for an apprenticeship,
  • are in the recognition process and
  • have a migration background with additional language support needs (third-country nationals, EU citizens and Germans with a migration background).

  • Preparation for vocational training
  • Need help with the recognition of a foreign professional qualification
  • need a job-related German course to complete your training
  • must reach a certain language level in order to obtain a work permit

Important note: The B2 basic course is not intended for those who are already studying at a university in Germany or would like to improve their German language skills for a degree or doctorate.

Aims of the professional language course B1/B2

For many professions, command of the German language at B2 level is a mandatory requirement. This applies in particular to the care of elderly and sick people. In addition, it is assumed that knowledge of German at B2 level is essential for career advancement and further learning, no matter what the field. General (400-500 units)

This B2 professional language course consists of 400-500 teaching units (UE) designed to help you acquire the language skills you need to be successful in the job market. Our course gives you the opportunity to improve your German language skills and boost your self-confidence so that you can shine in job interviews, presentations and other professional situations.

integration courses are aimed specifically at migrants and impart the knowledge of German necessary for everyday life.

professional language courses address the same target group and help them acquire the German language skills needed for success in the job market. These courses will help you develop the language skills you need to find and keep a job.

 

Contents of the professional language course B1/B2

We impart the linguistic, communicative and other job-related skills that you need for your success in professional life. Our curriculum includes topics such as communication and learning at work, job search, career orientation, training and further education and the legal framework of the German working world. Our courses are designed to be relevant to your current and future job, giving you the edge you need to compete in the job market.

  • Communication with external contacts in everyday work (e.g. with delivery and contractual partners)

Completion of the professional language course B1/B2

The basic course ends with a final test that evaluates the knowledge of the participants at the B2 level. All four language skills are tested in this exam:

  • reading comprehension
  • listening comprehension
  • Speak
  • Tender

If you fail the exam on the first try, you can retake it – either immediately or upon request if you are unlikely to pass the exam without repeating the course. Use this opportunity to ensure you have the best chance of succeeding in your B2 foundation course.

 

Promotion of the professional language course B1/B2

If you not working are, you can usually free take part in job-related language courses.

*People with an annual taxable income of €20.000 or more (in the case of individual assessment) or €40.000 or more (in the case of joint assessment) must apply for a Fee of €2,42 per lesson pay. However, if you pass the exam, up to 50% of the fee can be reimbursed.

Travel expenses can be reimbursed for participants, the:

  • live more than three kilometers (shortest walking distance) from the course location and receive benefits according to SGB II, SGB XII, asylum seeker benefits or vocational training allowance according to § 56 SGB III or who
  • receive unemployment benefit according to § 136 (1) No. 1 SGB III.
