Target groups of the professional language course B1/B2

Our B2 professional language course can help immigrants acquire the language skills they need to succeed in the job market. With our comprehensive program, learners can develop the confidence and language skills to qualify for an apprenticeship, find work or even advance their current career.

The professional language course B1 to B2 is suitable for these target groups:

The comprehensive course is specially tailored for people with a migration background who:

• have already passed the German test for immigrants with language level B1 or
• have a recognized language certificate with level B1.**

** If a language certificate is older than six months, a placement test must be taken and only assessed by a certified teacher in order to be able to enroll in the course.

Conditions of participation for the professional language course B1/B2

In order to be able to take part in this professional language course, a certificate of eligibility is required, which is generally decided by the employment agencies and job centres. If you are interested, please contact these offices to obtain the required certificate.

If you are in an employment or training relationship or in the recognition process and do not receive any benefits under SGB II or SGB III, you can submit your application for entitlement to participate directly to the BAMF.

Generally eligible:

• You have completed an integration course or can otherwise provide evidence of German language skills at level B1.
• You are registered as looking for work and/or you usually receive benefits under SGB II (ALG II) or SGB III (ALG I).
• You are looking for an apprenticeship.
• You are in the process of recognizing your vocational or training qualification.
• They have a migration background and need further language training (immigrants from third countries, EU citizens, Germans with a migration background).

Special requirements for interested parties who not job seekers, unemployed or seeking training are:

• You are currently in training.
• You need support with the recognition of a foreign professional qualification.
• You must attend a supportive job-related German course in order to successfully complete your training.
• You need a certain language level to get a work permit.

Requirements for professionals:

• They do not have the necessary knowledge of German to effectively carry out their professional tasks.

Important note: In the case of people who are admitted to Germany in accordance with Section 4 Paragraph 1 Clause 2 No. 2 DeuFöV and do not have access to an integration course, it is assumed that they need language support. A German test for immigrants is not required for admission to the course.

Aims of the professional language course B1/B2

Reaching level B2 in German is an essential requirement for many professions, such as caring for the elderly and sick. In addition, knowledge of German at this level is considered an important factor for career advancement and for further training, regardless of the area. We'd love to help you reach that level!

After you have successfully completed our professional language course:

• have an expanded vocabulary.
• you will have expanded your basic knowledge in the field of work and profession and have become acquainted with the special features of German professional life.
• you will be able to find a new job more easily or do your current job better.
• you can communicate confidently in the working world.
• you will receive a certificate that certifies that you have reached a higher language level (B2).

Procedure for the professional language course B1/B2

General (400-500 units)

Our job-related language course comprises 400-500 teaching units (UE) in which you can improve your German skills in order to be convincing in job interviews, presentations and other professional contexts.

The difference between a professional language course and an integration course simply explained

integration courses are specially designed to teach immigrants the language skills they need for everyday life in Germany.

professional language courses on the other hand, serve to equip immigrants and refugees with job-related German language skills that are essential for success in the workplace. These courses are beneficial for both job seekers and those who are already employed, as they give them the language skills they need to find, keep or improve a job.

Contents of the professional language course B1/B2

At B2 level, language-communicative and other job-related skills are taught that are directly related to the professional life of the participants, such as communication and learning at work, job search, career orientation, training and further education and the legal aspects at the German workplace.

Thematic focus

• Learning strategies, dealing with technical language & lifelong learning
• Dealing with digital media at work
• Companies in Germany (legal forms, corporate culture)
• Intercultural communication
• Communication with external contacts in everyday work (e.g. with delivery and contractual partners)
• job search and application
• Rules and norms of the working world
• Vocational training, further education and training
• Change and termination of employment

Completion of the professional language course B1/B2

The B2 basic course ends with a certified final test that assesses the knowledge of the participants at the B2 level. This exam covers all four language skills:

• the Leseversteh
• the Hörversteh
• Tender
• Speak

Those who cannot achieve the course objectives have the option of repeating the professional language course and/or taking the exam again.

Promotion of the professional language course B1/B2

Who visites not working is, can is free take part in job-related language courses!

* For employees with an annual taxable income of more than €20.000 (individual assessment) or €40.000 (joint assessment) a Fee of €2,42 per lesson be collected. Once the exam is passed, up to 50% of the fee can be refunded.

Travel expenses can be reimbursed, if the participants:

• live more than three kilometers (shortest walking distance) from the course location and you receive benefits according to SGB II, SGB XII, asylum seeker benefits or vocational training allowance according to § 56 SGB III or
• Unemployment benefit according to § 136 (1) No. 1 SGB III.
