  • completed BAMF integration course or
  • Verifiable knowledge of German at language level B1
  • registered as unemployed or looking for work
  • seeking training, in training or in the process of recognizing the professional or training qualification

This course is funded by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) and is free of charge for you.*

Target groups of the professional language course B1/B2

Our courses are designed to support migrants in improving their German language skills so that they can qualify for the labor market, their existing education or their current job.

The professional language course B1 to B2 is suitable for these target groups:

The comprehensive course is specially tailored for people with a migration background who:

  • have already passed the German test for immigrants with language level B1 or
  • have a recognized language certificate with level B1.

Conditions of participation for the professional language course B1/B2

A certificate of eligibility is required to take part in the course, which is generally decided by the employment agencies and job centres. If you are interested, please contact these bodies to obtain the required certification.

If you are in an employment or training relationship or in the recognition process and do not receive any benefits under SGB II or SGB III, submit your application for entitlement to participate directly to the BAMF.

 

Um generally eligible to be, you must:

  • have completed an integration course or can already demonstrate German at level B1.
  • be registered as looking for work and/or you usually receive benefits under SGB II (ALG II) or SGB III (ALG I).
  • be looking for an apprenticeship.
  • are in a recognition process for your vocational or training qualification.
  • have a migration background and need further language qualifications (migrants from third countries, EU citizens, Germans with a migration background).

 

If you are currently in an apprenticeship or employment relationship, you can still apply for a permit from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) if you:

  • are currently in training
  • need support with the recognition of a foreign professional qualification
  • need a supportive job-related German course to successfully complete your training,
  • must reach a certain language level in order to obtain a work permit.

 

If you are employed you can take part in the professional language course if:

  • They do not have the necessary language skills to effectively carry out their professional duties.

 

Important note: People who are studying at a university in Germany or who want to improve their German skills for their studies or doctorate do not belong to the target group of the B2 basic course.

Aims of the professional language course B1/B2

Language proficiency at level B2 is a statutory requirement for a large number of professions. For example, German language skills at level B2 are required for the care of elderly and sick people. Experts are also of the opinion that B2 German skills are important for professional development and further training, regardless of the industry. We are happy to help you bring your language skills to this level!

After you have successfully completed our professional language course:

  • you have an extended vocabulary,
  • can you communicate confidently in the working world,
  • you will have expanded your basic knowledge in the field of work and career and got to know the special features of German professional life,
  • you will be able to find a new job more easily or do your current job better,
  • you will receive a certificate that certifies that you have reached a higher language level (B2).

Procedure for the professional language course B1/B2

General (400-500 units)

The professional language course B1 to B2 consists of 400-500 teaching units (UE), in which you will be taught the language skills you need for your success on the job market. Our course gives you the tools to improve your German skills and gives you the confidence to do well in job interviews, presentations and other professional situations.

The difference between a professional language course and an integration course simply explained

Integration courses are aimed at immigrants and are designed to help them learn the German language they need for everyday life. Professional language courses, on the other hand, provide immigrants and refugees with job-related German skills that are necessary for success on the job market.

Whether you are looking for work or are already employed, these courses will help you target the language skills you need to get and keep a job.

Contents of the professional language course B1/B2

The linguistic-communicative and other job-related skills at B2 level are taught in 400-500 units based on content that is directly relevant to the professional life of the participants. This includes communication and learning at the workplace, job search, career orientation, training and further education as well as the legal framework of the German working world.

  • Learning strategies, dealing with technical language & lifelong learning
  • Dealing with digital media at work
  • job search and application
  • Rules and norms of the working world
  • Communication with external contacts in everyday work (e.g. with delivery and contractual partners)
  • Vocational training, further education and training
  • Change and termination of employment
  • Companies in Germany (legal forms, corporate culture etc.)
  • Intercultural communication

Completion of the professional language course B1/B2

The B2 basic course concludes with a final exam in which the knowledge and skills of the participants are tested at the B2 level. This exam covers all four language skills:

  • the Leseversteh
  • the Hörversteh
  • Speak
  • Tender

Upon request, the B2 basic course can be repeated once if it is unlikely that you will pass the exam without taking it again. If you don't pass the exam on the first try, you can repeat it.

Promotion of the professional language course B1/B2

Non-employed persons can is free take part in the job-related language courses!

*For gainfully employed with a taxable annual income of more than 20.000 euros (individual assessment) or 40.000 euros (joint assessment). Fees of €2,42 per teaching unit attack. After you have successfully passed the exam, you can apply for a reimbursement of up to 50% of the cost contribution.

Travel expenses can be reimbursed, if:

  • You live more than three kilometers (shortest walking distance) from the course location and receive benefits according to SGB II, SGB XII, asylum seeker benefits or vocational training allowance according to § 56 SGB III.
  • You are entitled to unemployment benefit according to § 136 (1) No. 1 SGB III.
